Privacy Policy

DocBindr is a document manager for iPhone. It is built local-first: the app has no server, no accounts and no analytics. This policy covers both the app and this website, which are treated differently — the app measures nothing at all, while the website counts visits in aggregate. Each is explained below.

In short: your documents never leave your device. We cannot see them, because there is nowhere for them to be sent.

What DocBindr stores, and where

Everything below is kept on your iPhone, inside the app's own storage area.

What the app does not do

These statements are about the DocBindr app on your iPhone. The website is covered separately below.

Text recognition happens on the device

When DocBindr reads a receipt's amount, suggests a category, or indexes a document for search, it uses Apple's Vision framework running locally on your iPhone. Document images and their text are not uploaded for processing, and no cloud recognition service is involved.

Reminders

Expiry reminders are local notifications scheduled by the app on your device. They are not sent through any push server, so the fact that a document exists — or when it expires — is never transmitted. You can turn them off in Settings, or revoke notification permission in iOS Settings at any time.

Purchases

The optional PRO upgrade is a one-time in-app purchase processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles payment; DocBindr never receives or stores your payment details. The app only asks iOS whether a valid purchase exists in order to unlock the feature. Apple's own privacy policy covers that transaction.

Camera, photos and microphone

DocBindr asks for the camera to scan documents, and for the microphone and speech recognition to let you search by voice. These are used only while you are performing the action and only on the device. Permission is requested at the point of use and can be withdrawn in iOS Settings.

Backups

Because documents live in the app's storage on your iPhone, they may be included in your own iPhone backups if you use iCloud Backup or a computer backup. Those backups are controlled by you and governed by Apple's terms, not by DocBindr.

This website

docbindr.com uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people visit and which pages they read. It is deliberately the least invasive option available:

This measures the website alone. It is not in the app, it never sees a document, and installing DocBindr does not carry it onto your phone. Cloudflare processes this data on our behalf; their privacy policy governs that processing. A browser with Do Not Track, an ad blocker or JavaScript disabled simply is not counted.

Deleting your data

Deleting a document in the app removes both its record and its file. Deleting DocBindr from your iPhone removes everything the app stored, including any name and email saved through Sign in with Apple. Because nothing was ever sent to us, there is no further deletion request to make.

Children

DocBindr is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.

Changes

If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted here with a new date above. Material changes affecting how information is handled will be noted in the app's release notes.
